Many people come to us and ask if replacing their speakers will improve their sound. The answer is yes it will, but not by much if you don't improve the signal to them first. The distortion, or crunching sound you hear is not caused by the speakers but by the distortion that is present in the input signal.
Firstly, the biggest improvement you can make is by improving the signal quality. Either through adding external amplification or by upgrading the stereo. Then you are free to upgrade your speakers and notice a marked difference.
Component systems comprising of a tweeter and a woofer are optimal for sound quality. The treble is split from the midbass by use of a crossover. While full range speakers are useful if you are on a tight budget or limited on space.
For adding that all important bass you will need a subwoofer and extra amplification or, if the budget is limited, 6x9's in the rear shelf. Do not combine the two though for bass cancellation reasons, also be careful with the use of 6x9's when sound quality is important. They will drag the soundstage behind you (the driver). |
